About
Word Unscrambler finds every word that can be made from a set of letters. Type your letters, or upload a screenshot of the game and let it read the tiles for you.
The dictionary
Results come from the ENABLE word list — 168,551 words of two to fifteen letters, and the lexicon most English word games are built on. It is in the public domain. A word appearing here does not guarantee your particular game will accept it: individual titles add and remove entries, and proper nouns are excluded throughout.
How the solver works
The word list is grouped by length, so a rack of seven letters only ever examines words of seven letters or fewer. Each candidate is checked by counting letters rather than rearranging them, which is what makes results appear as you type instead of after a wait. A ? stands in for a blank or a tile you cannot read.
All of it runs in your browser. The dictionary is downloaded once and searched on your own device, so your letters are never sent anywhere.
Reading screenshots
Reading a whole screenshot at once works poorly, because text recognition expects words and sentences while word games show single letters scattered across tiles. So the image is first split into individual letter shapes, and each is recognised on its own.
The result lands in an editable box on purpose. Recognition on real game artwork — decorative fonts, gradients, busy backgrounds — is imperfect, and correcting one letter is a far better outcome than silently solving the wrong rack.
